To,
Dear Members, Colleagues, Post Graduate Students,
PhD Scholars, Sponsors and Friends,
Heartiest Greetings from NEIRIHMS, Shillong!
It is a great pride and immense pleasure to announce that NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, Meghalaya is organizing the XIV National & IV Regional (NE Chapter) Conference of the Indian Association of Tropical Parasitology (IATP) – TROPACON 2020 on 11th & 12th of Sept, 2020 with the theme, “Tropical Parasitic Diseases Under One Health Concept : A Public Health Challenge” and a Pre-Conference Workshop on 10th of Sept, 2020. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am extending herewith warm and cordial invitation to all of you for your active participation in this National & Regional Conferences and the Workshop. We are confident that the Conferences will facilitate an excellent opportunity to the galaxy of eminent scientists and young scholars assembling from different institutions of the country for scientific deliberations and interactions in the Emerging Tropical Parasitic Diseases of Public Health Importance under “One Health Concept”. It is our strong feeling that there is extreme necessity of addressing the emerging Tropical Parasitic Diseases through multidisciplinary holistic approaches. It is also our expectation that this scientific event will focuss the challenges of Parasitic Diseases affecting humans, animals and environment and conclude with strong recommendations for their long term appropriate solution by the concerned authorities in interest of the Public Health in general.
Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (IATP)
The Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (IATP) was started in the year 2002 with the aim and objective of promoting research activities in the field of Parasitology and covering basic and applied aspects of protozoology, helminthology, and entomology of tropical importance and which are of interest to medical investigators, veterinary practitioners, zoologists and others with special interest in tropical parasitology. The society publishes internationally reputed journal, “Tropical Parasitology”.
Dear Colleagues
It is my immense pleasure and privilege as well to welcome you all to the 14th National Conference of the Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (Tropacon-2020) that is being held atNorth Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Shillong, Meghalaya.
As you are quite aware, the Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (IATP) is a vibrant, resourceful scientific forum that would foster meaningful deliberations, exchange of value added thoughts, besides showcasing the works of the young and avid researchers in parasitology. This would essentially culminate in the fructification of nodal contributions to the world of tropical parasitology, in particular and medicalparasitology, in general.
Having said that, I make a clarion call to facilitate a variety of contemporary topicsin the realms of diagnostic medical parasitology, management of diseases, issuesconcerning novel therapeutic strategies etc. However, we cannot shy away from adopting a pragmatic approach. That is to state that we ought not forget the fact patient affordability. It is imperative that there is acontinuing and compelling need to persist with conventional assays and diagnostic procedures, wherever applicable and in such cases, the procedures/ assays need to comply with sensitivity and specificity, besides other quality parameters.
Friends, there is a plethora of novel diagnostic methods based on immunology, genomics and proteomics. I draw your attention to the fact that in this era of knowledge and information explosion, we need to facilitate the entry and utility of Artificial intelligence, Big data and Internet of Things. This assumes great relevance in view of the fact that there is no dearth of clinical materials in our country. I particularly seek the inputs and contributions of the young and avid medical parasitologists in this regard.
Let me congratulate Prof.A.C. Phukan and his organizing team for having chalked out an impressive and busy schedule that would usher in fresher approach and newer modalities in parasitology.
A hearty welcome to all the resource persons and the discerning delegates, lookingforward to meet in the serene city of Shillong, Meghalaya.
