A scientific study done by a researcher needs readers. This is not only to disseminate the knowledge to the scientific community but also to advance one's own career. Once a study is completed, writing the findings of the study for publication remains a daunting task for the majority of the young minds who are embarking on the journey of research and academics. To address this problem, Prof. Subhash Chandra Parija and Prof. Vikram Kate have edited this excellent book titled “Writing and Publishing a Scientific Research Paper”. The editors have decades of experience as academicians and researchers of repute in a premier medical institute in India and have got a few hundred publications between them in peer-reviewed national and international journals; and by editing this book, they have made the whole process much simpler and transparent. Eminent national and international authors with experience and expertise have contributed chapters in this book.
The book is divided into two parts. The first deals with the nuances of writing a paper with individual chapters devoted to the sections and subsections of a scientific paper. The second part deals with an equally, if not more difficult procedure of getting the paper published in a reputed, peer reviewed, indexed journal of good impact factor. The readers are also informed about how to choose an appropriate journal; certain publishing misconducts such as plagiarism and the perils of publishing in “predatory journals” in separate chapters. One unique feature of the book is the inclusion of key points at the beginning, a case scenario at the end of each chapter, and comic illustrations to help in driving the point home better. To summarize, it is comprehensive, accessible, simple and lucid, and fits all.
All in all, this book is highly recommended not only for the young researchers but also the seasoned ones who may find the answers of many questions which might have intrigued them for long!
